EDUCATION
HISTORY
At Shuhada Organization, education is our foremost priority. Afghanistan has one of the highest illiteracy rates in the world – and the majority of the Afghan population lacks a formal education. With respect to Afghan women and girls, this deprivation is doubled.
When Shuhada first began working in the Central Highlands, known as Hazarajat, a public call for education women was equivalent to blasphemy. Shuhada, therefore, first began a school for boys, to build trust within communities. The establishment of schools for girls took many years, and much dedication. Today, however, hundreds of girls from Hazarajat are studying at Kabul University and other higher education institutions throughout Afghanistan.
